I’m sure some of you are wondering what the heck a NaNoWriMo is and want an answer for this absurdity. Well here it is. NaNoWriMo stands for national novel writing month. It is a website owned by an organization called office of letters and light and exists to help people who want to write to actually write.
The insanity of this starts in late September to October frame where people who join are just now world building and organizing how their book is. After that they gather friends and others who are writing similar stories into forums to help cheer you on or to figure out a reason for that awkward plot hole.
As November comes around is when the fun truly begins. Starting on November first all writers are in full gear and are actually writing their book. The goal by the end is to write 50k worth of words. Impossible you say? Well if you think about it you only need to write 1,667 words per day. If you hit that goal then you earn in December a shiny little badge and some offers for discounted programs as well as a free copy of your book printed for you.
So why am I talking about this all of a sudden? Well Dragon Guardian was finished as its first draft thanks to NaNoWriMo. Just two years ago I finished writing it and am very proud of how it turned out. So here I am for those who think they could never write a book to show that they can and there are others out there just like them.
If you don’t like the idea of November then by all means do Camp NaNoWriMo. Those are in June and July or do JanNoWriMo which is in January. If you want to write a script there is Script Frenzy and there are even some for blogs, comics and other types of media out there. All you have to do is look.
If you would like to add me as a friend on NaNoWriMo just look for kalio_chan that is me. I am planning on also becoming an ML in my area so keep an eye out for that. That area is Ohio :: everywhere else. If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask. During NaNoWriMo I will also be tweeting more often about write ins and whatnot so follow me on there.
Good luck being an ML! I am planning to do my first year this year 🙂 If I can focus myself.
Best of luck!
Thanks, I am right now waiting on the people from the organization to email me back so I can see if I am an ML or not. I will cheer you on for your first time doing this! I know how it is for the first time. Try and find a region in your area for support as well.
Cross fingers I can finish 🙂
